Ogbaru Local Government Area is located in Anambra State, Nigeria. It is one of the 21 local government areas in Anambra State and is situated in the southeastern region of Nigeria. Historically, Ogbaru and its surrounding region have a rich cultural and historical heritage, often linked to the Igbo people, who are the predominant ethnic group in this area. The Igbo people have a long history of social and political organization that predates colonialism. During the pre-colonial era, the Ogbaru area would have been part of the larger Igbo society, characterized by autonomous communities and village-based governance systems. These communities had their own leadership structures and decision-making processes.
With the advent of British colonial rule in Nigeria, the political landscape underwent significant changes. The area became part of the British colony and later a region within the Federation of Nigeria. Local governance structures were modified to fit into the colonial administration system, and traditional leaders were integrated or replaced by appointed officials under the colonial authorities.
After Nigeria gained independence in 1960, Ogbaru Local Government Area, like many other regions in Nigeria, experienced various political changes and transitions. It became an integral part of the Nigerian state, participating in national and regional political activities, elections, and governance according to the Nigerian political system.
